Monkstone lies on the western edge of the Dartmoor National Park, about 5 miles north of Tavistock. It is easily reached from Tavistock, via the unclassified road which runs north from Bedford Square in Tavistock to Brentor and Lydford. Monkstone is on the left of this road, just past the rocky outcrop surmounted by the church at Brentor.

From Okehampton, Monkstone is reached by turning right into Lydford village, and then continuing on this road a further 3 miles. Monkstone is on the right, after passing the Brentor Inn, just before reaching the sign to the Brentor church car park.
